Can a cop legally tell you how fast to drive on a private road?
i live on a PRIVATE ROAD. today i was going 50 (mph) on that private road on my way home from school. not the smartest thing, i know, but that's not the issue i'm worried about the moment. my neighbor, who is a cop, followed me home (he was in his wife's van which was why I didn't know it was him) and gave me a "warning", & said that if I do it again he could get a sherif out here. I was polite and everything, of course, but I was skeptical as well. Do I have to follow any speed limits legally on a private road? There was no speed limit sign. I want to think he can't take away my lisence next time he catches me (hypothetically speaking, i don't plan on speeding around him or his cars again) or give me a speeding ticket. What confuses me is I know you have to keep it under 25 in residential zones, like around houses. I live in the woods though so it's not like any kids are running around or anything. Sooo, legally does he have any authority over how fast I drive?

Depends on the local law.
Call the Sheriff's office and ask. The County probably has a 25 MPH limit on un posted roads. He legally has no authority which is why he is warning you that he will bring in the Sheriff.
