Using a 94 jeep Cherokee for plowing, good idea?
I have a 1994 jeep Cherokee. 213K miles about. Engine and transmission feel nice and strong. Pretty good tires too. 4X4 works, part time, full time, and 4lo I'm getting a new car so this is extra and i want to put it to use.
If i can find a good deal on a plow should i jump on it? I want to use it to go around the neighborhood and charge $20 to do a driveway. How well would a jeep handle this type of work.
I have head since it's a unibody the rear wind-shield will shatter if i hit a curb or anything?
Also would i need to get a transmission cooling setup and stuff.
If at all possible i want to get a winch operated plow with manual angling so i dont have to tap into power steering, but either way is this a good idea?
If you can find a good deal on a plow and think you can make back the money pretty easily, I'd go for it.
I would consider possibly visiting a used car dealership and see if you could swap it for an older Wrangler or CJ-5 or something. If not, think about investing a little bit more and putting large tires with studs in them to reduce slippage.
If you get a lot of snow in your area for more than a week or two a year and you think you'll have the time to do this and make back the money, I'd go for it.
Also consider whether or not you'll think you'll enjoy the work before investing your money.
