Welding Cast Iron to Mild Steel?
I have a rear axle that is going in a drag car and we would like to weld it for strength. We would weld the pumpkin (cast iron) to the shaft cover (mild steel). We given some electrodes and told they would work, but i still wanted to look into it. The electrode given to us is E308-16, which looking into it is a stainless steel rod. Will this still work?
You can weld it with the rod you have but you should make sure both surfaces are really clean then pre heat both weld surfaces with a torch. If brazing is an option you will get better results.
