Welding Cap Hard

Suggestions on what to do with 1985 ranger?
Well i was given a 1985 ford ranger, it runs but horridly. I am thinking about either rebuilding engine myself just to try to get a feel i mean if i fuck it up its only a small loss of money for whatever knowledge i gain, but would it be worth doing you think? there is already about 200 or so dollars invested in battery, oil change, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor/cap/rotor. and i have to pay 180 before i do something that drastic to get the title changed. i mean idk im debating myself hard right now. Also this truck is looking held together by idk: theres household coaking used on the windshield, and i may need to weld a few peices of sheetmetal over a few holes on the floor board but that isnt a problem.
an engine rebuild isn't cheap. but if your going for the learning experience than yeah start out on a pile that way if it doesn't work out your not really losing anything but the cash. i rebuilt my first engine when i was 16, the sucker still runs and has power like you wouldn't believe 13 years later man. good luck
