Why causes meltdown of an ICP-MS torch?

I have an Elan 6100 ICP-MS and it has been working fine, until one day that I went to light the plasma the torch melted. I replaced the torch and tried to relight it and the new one melted. Troubleshooting has led me to believe that there is an air leak, but all the connections to the nebulizer and argon lines appear secure. Do you have any suggestions as to why the torch would undergo meltdown?

has the ICP-MS been moved recently or been subjected to undergrads/graduate students ?
