Grinding curves into slate?
I'd like to lay slate into a curved kitchen island. I have the time/patience and outdoor workspace to devote to grinding edges. I have access to a grit blade and bandsaw as well as a wet tile saw. From what I gather, i'd also need a specialty grinding 'something', either like an industrial sized stained-glass grinder or something fitted to a drill press.
Or should i consider those vague voices in the back of my head telling me this is impractical and that I should just dress off the curved edges with mortar?
thx
Hello, In my opinion i think you should go for it, Make something a little different, if you have the time and the space why not. Slate is quite easy to cut and grind as it is relativly soft, There are lots of grinder attachments that will do the job, you could mark your curved line, cut it a bit oversized with a tile cutter blade on the grinder then finish off the curve nicely with a 60 grit pollyfan or flap disk or even a grinding disk! polly fans are such a good tool, very versatile, anyways thats my two cents
