tig welding stainless steel, having ugly grey welds?
I am a decent/good tig welder when welding aluminum, but having a hard time getting my stainless welds to look like I want. I am welding 304 schedule 10 & 40 pipe, using 308/308L filler, 3/32" tungsten 2% red tip, Miller Syncrowave 200, 100% Argon. My stainless welds look like very flat, well penetrated mig welds, and are dark grey in color and appear to be oxidized? They do not have the roll of nickle look. I have tried using 316 filler, tried helium, still not better. I want that shiny roll of nickles! please help. Thanks much.
Try to increase the purge rate, and maybe drop the amps some.
