Help with my DIY CO2 System!?
Hello i own a 75 gallon tank and am currently using all low-light plants. I am using plants such as Anubias, Crypts, Taiwon Moss, Round Pellia and Vals. On this aquarium i have an Eheim filter running, 2 airstones (loach tank and needs lots of oxygen, thats why i want to get my plants growing and producing good O2!) and a stock lighting system of 40 watts. I would like to make an addition of a DIY CO2 system. I have read they are safe and are definately cost efficent! I am not willing to spend so much on a commercial system! I would like to know how many bottles should i have running and whether the lighting i have is sufficent to be running with the CO2? Also is it safe to leave these systems running over night and will it harm my fish?
Thanks in Advance!
Considering your low intensity lighting, and that you're running airstones, the addition is a CO2 system is completely worthless. Light dictates how much CO2 plants use, and 40 watts over a 75 gallon tank is considered extremely low, so your plants won't be using much of the added CO2 and the excess would likely contribute to algae. Even if you were to add CO2, the surface agitation caused by your airstones would simply drive the CO2 out of the tank before your plants could use it anyways. Additionally, all the plants you listed are simple, easy to care for plants that don't require added CO2. If you're having trouble with your plants, increasing the lighting would be the better solution.
