I have a friend who is willing to give me a stainless steel stove that was in a house which he recently bought. I’m not sure if I like stainless steel or not. They seem rather lifeless in the wrong kitchen. This is also a flat-top stove which I’ve never owned. I’m assuming a flat-top will be easier to clean then my current coil stove. I also suspect this will need cleaning more often though as well.
Years ago my mother had a flat-top and it certainly had a brown circle around the burner. Another issue is then my appliances won't match.
My motto is- If it's free then it's for me. Trade it for something else if you don't want it.
