I bought a pair of new military-style boots, steel-toe, but from a consignment shop. They fit well...?
but after about 4 hours, they were a little chafing in the heel, and, probably would cause blisters if worn as-is at work all day. Is there an oil or soap, or wax, like neatsfoot, or something, to speed up breaking them in. They are for a welding school I will be attending, not military use. I like them and they seem to be well made. Hiking or hunting might be other uses.
There are a couple of things you can do. The fastest way to break in a pair of boots is to soak them in warm water for about 20 minutes, then put them on and wear them dry. You have to oil the boots after though or the leather will get hard and potentially start to crack.
The other option is to keep wearing them. The boots will get broken in and your feet will develop callouses where the boots rub.
If you want to prevent blisters, you can use athletic tape, duct tape or something like mole skin and tape the areas on your feet where the boots rub. The boots will rub the tape instead of your skin. You can also try some thicker hiking socks or double up your socks.
