Solar Auto Darken

Does the light from an arc flash recharge a solar powered welding helmet?
I'm thinking about getting an auto darkening welding helmet and the one I'm looking at is solar. As my school welding shop is inside, it won't get much sun. I was wondering if the amount of light coming of of the arc flash is enough to power/recharge the lens.
Most welders work indoors anyways, so you shouldn't have to worry about it. I have heard, however, that it is a bad idea to keep it in a dark locker right before you use it. I have heard that they do use batteries and if you keep it in the dark too long and weld right away, it wont have the power to darken.
