What all do you recommend for someone new to welding?
Want to get a feel for it to see if I want to do it professionally. Any good manuals on welding? I know what "safety equipment" I need(welding helmet, a good pair of a coveralls couldn't hurt, gloves)
Would this be a good welder for a starter?

That's a decent welder. It will do most common jobs. I taught myself, but I'm comfortable around electricity and fire.
If you want to see if you could do it for a living you would do better to take a class at a local trade school.
They will teach you the basics and supply the equipment for a fee. To weld for a living you will need lots of practice and continuing education.
It might help if you would tell us what you want to weld. Auto welding could be at a body or muffler shop, there are welders who make fuel storage tanks for boats.
