Cutting reinforced concrete: what disk to use?
I need to cut reinforced concrete. Because of the location I can only use a hand held electric angle grinder. What type of cutting disc should I use? I know I could use the cheaper, black, composite blade, but they wear so quickly, so I thought a diamond/steel disc would be better. The thing is I have got some Mirka SE discs of this type, they are of a segmented disc construction, however I am not sure if the steel reinforcement will cause a problem or if it will slice right through that too? How many metres do you think a standard 230 x 22 mm diamond disc will last cutting through professionally poured 10cm thick concrete with steel inside?

If you are using a 9 inch grinder with a segmented blade you probably won't go all the way through. But if you are careful, you could let a hose dribble some water where you are making the cut. Also wrap the grinder in a bit of thin rag to act as a dust filter as concrete dust will chew out the commutator on the armature real quick. You should make a cut of several meters with such a blade. I have used bigger machines that are petrol powered with a chain saw engine and a 400 and something (can't remember) mm blade about 14 inch. Not real good for your health but cut through cement like a knife through butter.
Also has attachment for a garden hose. Mark the cut with a oil based crayon too.
