Is my new gaming rig good enough to last a few years?
I spent around 1400-1500 and built it myself. I've built a few computers, but I just wanna know YOUR opinion. I'm an ATi/AMD fan, but don't hate me for that =P Ok so here's my specs...
-Gigabyte GA-m61P-S3 motherboard
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (2.4GHZ per core)
-Creative X-Fi Extremegamer sound card
-ATi (Diamond) HD 3870 w/ 256bit and 512mb.
-Samsung 500Gb HDD, 7,200 RPM, 16mb cache, SATA
-MASSCOOL HDD cooler...probably not neccessary
-Lite-on DVD burner SATA
-4Gb DDR2-800 RAM
-Rosewill Steel case
-Rosewill 550W PSU
-Logitech z-2300 speakers
-Logitech mx518 mouse
-Logitech G11 keyboard
-Hanns.G 19'' LCD moniter w/ 2ms response time.
-Windows XP Pro (screw vista...lol)
-Office home and student
-and other stuff like arctic silver, a surge protector, and other hardly relevant things...lolz
Wow, I'm impressed. I concur with your opinion of Vista. I'd go with a small hard drive though, easier to defrag. Use a large one for backup.
Nothing wrong with ATI/AMD either. I still use my old AMD setup to run ME. Some of my old stuff doesn't work well with XP.
You should be good for a few years. I would prefer to build another one myself but just don't have the time to keep up with all of the new technology. I'll probably buy a barebones and load XP. Like you said, screw Vista.
