Central AC unit drip tray drain pipe gone?
Well I previously cleaning the inside filter because my central air was barely blowing air out the vents. once i cleaned the air started to blow out 3 times as much out the vents..couple days later the thermostat shut off because the tray fulled up..so i went into the attic to see where the drain pipe was, and it was capped..probably because it wasn't working at its full potential...So i took a cap off and put a hose and clamp on it running out of my house..now should i have used pvc or is the hose fine..and also it shut off this morning but when i went to the end off the hose and tryed to suck the water out it started it flow through the hose..and it turned back on..what do i have to do to keep that flowing? Thank you for your time!!
It sounds like water was going into the emergency drain pan, which is not to be used as the primary, full-time drain pan. It is there only in the event the primary condensate drain becomes clogged. The emergency drain pan was capped off, which is okay to do in some jurisdictions, and an emergency cut-off float switch was used to shut down the system to keep water from overflowing the emergency drain pan and coming down on your ceiling. Your primary condensate drain is still clogged up, so you've got to get that cleared to prevent anymore water from overflowing into the emergency drain pan. Once you clear the primary drain, you should have no more water going into the emergency drain pan. As far as piping the emergency drain pan, you should use PVC pipe, running the pipe to the soffit and stubbing it out a few inches below. You want the pipe to be visible and noticeable so in the event your primary drain every clogs again, you'll notice the water dripping from the pipe in the soffit. That way you know you've got a problem. Do not, I repeat, do not use the emergency drain pan as your primary drain.
