Question about PEX plumbing.?
I live in North Alabama, so I do not have climate issues with plumbing. The house I purchased was built in 1959. It has 1 bathroom. it has a mixture of galvanized pipe, cpvc pipe, and compression fittings.
now that's out of the way I am going to replace all of the plumbing.
My question is what would be better using cpvc, or pex with a manifold? I know that you have to purchase a crimp tool for $100.00 to $200.00. The only negative thing about pex, is if it is not installed correctly the crawlspace will look like it has spaghetti under it.
so CPVC or PEX? and why?
I'd also go with PEX. It's probably a bit more expensive, but it's so much easier to install. There are all those little brass fittings you'll have to buy to tie into your existing system, and they can add up. The up side is you can pretty much make an long run with just one piece, saving you a lot of time. I think the big home improvement stores are starting to carry PEX or some form of it. There are a few different ways to connect PEX. You do NOT have to crimp metal bands around the fittings. There is an expansion method, in which you expand the PEX, slip on the fitting and the PEX returns to its original size, thereby locking the fitting in place. See this link for an explanation of three methods to make connections:
