How much cheaper is piped in natural gas verses propane with meter for heating?
Here in Southeastern Pennsylvania, USA, propane is running at about $2.99/gallon - which gives off 91,600BTU.
Natural gas in the PECO service area is about $1.14/Therm (100,000 BTU) - based on our bills.
So, you are paying $0.0327 per 1,000 BTU with propane, and 0.0114 per 1,000 BTU with natural gas. That makes propane 2.87 times the cost of gas.
Compared to heating oil, which is running about $3.05/gallon - which gives off 130,000 btu, the cost is $0.0235 per 1,000 BTU, but propane heaters are more efficient than oil heaters and and so cost about the same in actual heat delivered.
Electricity (again in the PECO service area) runs about $0.15/kwh delivered which gives you 3412 BTU which is $0.044 per 1000 BTU - the most expensive of all.
Fuel and utility costs vary by region - so check your with your Utility and propane supplier to refine this information.
