Welders: tell me about the current state of your vision?
I am 36, considering training in welding (mig, stick, tig and flux core). I do some welding already in my hobbies (flux core), so I am somewhat familiar with it.
Needing to know it I should expect it to adversely affect my vision, even though I will be using protection for my eyes at all times (auto darkening lens in hood).
I am 34 and welded since my early teens off and on around the farm, then I worked as a welder for 2 years. I can tell you that with all of the protection there will be a loss. You will strike by accident and it adds up. I have had my eyes burned by welding in bright sun next someone and did not know I was catching the UV. It will take years off of your eyes.
