What happens when you call the 'how is my driving' phone number?
i have called the numbers on the back of dump trucks, landscape trucks or tractor trailers... 1-8##-###-SAFE? -- to make a complaint. when i called they said they would let the safety manager know. they also asked me to call back to report good driving habits as well. i had an opportunity to do this yesterday. they kind of giggled when i called to say someone was a good driver and they stated that they would let the safety manager know.
do people get fired for driving bad? do they get raises for driving good? what is the point and outcome of this number?

It depends on the company, but too many complaints from different people on record for the same driver in most companies results in, at the least, the driver being called in for a Performance review. If there isn't improvement, most companies will fire a driver as a bad risk. However, most companies take care to make sure they aren't counting complaints from anybody with a grudge. You probably go a laugh when you called a compliment because very few people do. Most people only call when they have a complaint.
It's just like a store, 8 out of 10 people with a complaint about service voice it to somebody, 1 in 20 who are satisfied file a compliment.
Bottom line, somebody does take the bad driving report to heart, but, unless you are the 20th person in 3 weeks in 5 different states, it won't result in an immediate firing or suspension, simply because they don't want a person with a grudge to cost somebody a job.
Yes, I do call the number, but only if I see something REALLY bad, or something REALLY special.
