Just come off a service job on an industrial gearbox coupled to a Caterpillar diesel. i was told that the engine just had a burnt valve replaced. i was also told this did not affect the running of the engine and ran perfectly never missing a beat. if this is the case why did they have it replaced and how did they know to call out a mechanic to look at it. It was not discovered during a PM but someone was called out. I was wondering would the engine develop a miss, backfire, run rough etc...
you got it...why would anyone replace a valve ,,IF it didnt affect the running.....diesel works /fires from compression...no good valve= no compression =not running well...
