Will repairing water leaks in the cab of a 66 truck with silicone rather than welds do anything to the value?
I am fighting a never ending battle with water getting inside the cab of my 66 elky from the bed. the ass of the car is in the air and the water runs towards the cab, goes down that crack between the bed and the cab and ends up under my feet. If i redneck the leaks with some heavy duty silicone rather than do an actual repair to the metal will it hurt the value of the truck if i ever want to sell?
AND in the future when i have funds for the correct repair of this problem will the silicone come off? I don't know exactly what is going wrong b/c i haven't had the opportunity to take the whole thing apart yet, but I see about 6 spots where water trickles in and i want to plug them with silicone and be done with cleaning the carpet and dealing with items behind the seats getting water damage unexpectedly.
Answering your second question first, you should be able to easily remove the silicone down the road if you want to. And if this is a factory seam, you definitely don't want to weld on it if you want to preserve the value. This was sealed with some kid of rubber compound when it was new, so sealing it with silicone is closer to original than welding it up.
