recommendation on a welding machine...?
Looking for recommendations for a welding machine... Just want it for occasional repairs such as mufflers, welding on bar b que pits, angle iron for bracing.. nothing thicker than 1/4 inch.. was thinking a wire welder with no gas.. Please post opinions on welding machines and what brand if possible.. Also what do you think about the generator and welding machine combo they sell? worth it or not reliable?
The ideal welder for you would be Lincoln's 110V "nascar" check out http://www.ben.com/tools/sp-175plus.html. For welding without gas you would want an .030 flux core wire. Not a machine designed for professional use, but I imagine it would suit you fine. We have one in our shop, and in a pinch it's been useful.
I'm not certain which welder-generator machine you are talking about, but most of the Miller and Lincoln ones on the market are built to last and the price on these machines reflects that. If you are talking about some cheap hardware store special with out a recognizable name, I would say it's not worth it.
