how do you make steel trusses, 23 ft (7000mm) 2 ft (600mm) to apex from bottom chord,? thank you!?
I need help! I lost my cabin in a wild fire, as my finances are limited, I was hoping to rebuild a steel shed/cabin (more fire resistant) myself and buy the materials rather than buying a kit shed as they don't build them anymore like they use to, they use thinner metal, that's harder to weld and easier to break. Ideally a garage plan would be better, but once I figure out how to make a truss, I probably could figure out the wall framing. I've included a photo of a truss that I've seen. http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/ad252/paulsnaps/smltruss.jpg, many thanks
Paul
The first thing that you should do before you even read the rest of my answer is check your local building codes. Sometimes the codes specify that a professional must build your roof trusses, since the truss is critical to your cabin/shed's structural integrity.
Now here is my advice, I know that you are on a limited budget. But, building trusses is not something that you learn to do in one day or even a possibly a week. It takes a lot of knowledge and practice. I would call a commercial home builder supply company and talk to them about building steel trusses. They might even be able to supply you with "kit" trusses, where they cut all the parts and pieces and send you a diagram on how to put them together.
I know that's not the answer you were hoping for. But I can remember when i first learned how to make trusses. Its not something that you can learn out of a book, it takes practice and patience. You wouldn't want to take the chance of your roof failing, hopefully I've pointed you in the right direction.
