Installing a entry door, sub sill question?
i purchased the required prehung door for my opening, now im looking at the subsill which is concrete, first question would be it has a lip on the inner side of approx ½ x 1", now when i install my new door this is going to be a problem ( kinda like a l shape laying horizontal ) and the existing door frame is 3 peice instead of the 4, so its kinda like a threshold. so do i cut that flush inorder to install the new door, and the bottom of the new door is wood, so is there a gasket im susposed to install between my subsill and my prehung package ? anyone run into this kind of subsill before? ... house was built in the early 70s
If your lucky your new door will fit up against that lip. It was there to keep moisture from seeping in under the old sill. If your new threshold comes in farther than the last one you will have to chip away that lip to allow your new door to rest flat on the slab.
use a caulking gun and some silicon door and window sealer underneath the new threshold to keep out critters and moisture. also some of that expanding sealer in a spray can does a good job of filling the voids around the sides and top before you put the trim back on..... just don't put in too much, it expands. If you over do it you'll be cleaning up foam.
