How to drill a pilot hole into a broken screw/bolt?
What kind of drill bit is required to drill a pilot hole into a smaller screw/bolt that is broken off and only has the threaded part lodged into something?
Obviously size is an issue but I'm wondering what kind of bit is required to actually drill the pilot hole?

My friend, any metal drilling bit will work, the size is determined by the size of the "twist-out" tool recommended for that size bolt.
Most bolt extractor sets are just that, a set. They include the extractor, and the specific drill bit to drill the pilot hole with.
Don't buy a cheap economy set. A good set will come with everything you need, and the instructions.
