I have a problem, I bought a tube of black polishing compound from harbor freight tools. It comes in a dry paste inside a cardboard tube. But it comes with no instructions. The paste is reaaly dry like a jewlers rouge or white diamond compound. How do I use it? Do I add water or oil to it? Or do I just use it dry? It is for lapping steel or metal.
my opinion is if its for lapping valves or similar, is that it should almost be the consistency of toothpaste and stick well to the metal .. the lapping compounds ive dealt with were water based and if theyre too dry i put them in a small cup like a cap for something and added water a drip or two at a time and stirred it until i got what i wanted .. no idea what you have there, i would think just experiment and see if its water soluable and if it is cut a little water in and mix it up .. you wont want any oil with it if its a water based goop, and the metal should be free of oil to or it wont cut right .. thats assuming its water based ..
