Debris Disaster Relief

Activating the National Guard?
i am an E1 in the NY Guard, 15W UAV Operator. because of my MOS my Unit is actually 4 hours away from my home city where i am, Buffalo, NY.
The Guard here gets activated a lot to help during the winter and whatnot, which is what i want to help with. Even though my unit is in Syracuse, when disaster hits here is it possible to call up a local Unit and ask to go out with them?
Also, my MOS, 15W UAV Operator wouldnt be practical to use during a lot of disasters like blizzards, hurrican relief, etc. when the Guard is activated to help with disaster, do they all do their jobs or can my MOS end up putting me as one of the people clearing debris and passing out food and water. just curious.
Since you are still learning the military way of life, you need to remember this one very important phrase:
Regardless of what MOS you were trained for, you are always a soldier first.
If the Governor of NY needs additional help in a natural disaster, your unit could be activated if it is within the disaster area or close to it.
You could be tasked with duties that have nothing to do at all with your MOS training.
Your NCO's and officers will always be there for support if you have any problems or questions after your detailed disaster briefing outlining your units duties & responsibilities during the disaster.
