Can I remove the oil tank fuel lines myself?
I have an in-ground heating oil tank but have converted to gas and no longer use it. The installers left two fuel lines that come out of the wall in the basement, go under the concrete floor, and surface where the oil furnace used to be. I want to remove the lines and fill/patch the concrete so I can lay carpet.
The lines run through some kind of flexible metal conduit in the concrete. Can I just close the valves (2) at the wall and cut the lines or will it make it difficult when it comes time to remove the oil tank?
You are probably better off to leave this alone. If there is any old oil in the line, it could be a contamination issue which would be ugly. However, if the tank is empty and you are going to have it removed, I would consider hooking up an air compressor or something to blow any oil beck into the tank before starting if possible, then remove the entire thing. You do not want to just remove the ends and cap them as depending on your location, trapped residual oil might have unexpected consequences, and if you just cut of the ends....a residual smell.
