how do I calculate the drag, friction and torque needed to turn a steel tube in that's 50% contacting concrete
the weight of the tube is the only load. Water is used to cool the friction heat. This is a core drill bit for concrete. I know the torque needed to cut but the drag starts to factor in as you go deeper.
I *think* this is actually pretty simple, as the weight of the tube is entirely carried by drill/cutting bit. The only things you need to take into account are: the coefficient of friction of steel to concrete, and the area of tube involved, and the tangential force on the pipe.
That being said, depth will affect that force and resistance, as will heat. Also, other factors such as the drill bit 'bowing' will have an effect that probably makes this sort of estimate useless.
