The attic vent- whole house suction fan started thumping while running. It was the drive belt missing chunks of rubber. I replaced the belt from below in the living area not from attic access, I worked through the blades to re-string the new belt on the pulleys. Now the fan is quieter and even seems faster but the flapper louvers won't open when the louver box is placed against the running fan, they just open slightly. There's an adjustment spring allowing tighter closing force but nothing to help it open more when in place. Any thoughts please?
I even lubricated the ganged flapper with WD40.
I neglected to mention this fan is in the living quarters cieling and sucks air through open windows from the outside.
Maybe you bent one of the louvers while replacing the belt. Some early morning when it is still cool outside go up there and take a look - or maybe you can inspect it from the outside.
