Adjustable Turning Roll

How to make an adjustable snare wire for a cajon. General builder/out of the box thinker required!!?
Alright this is a tough one! I have built a cajon (essentially an instrument in the form of a box that you hit the front ply in different places to play like a drum) and am trying to figure out how to make an adjustable snare.
Please see:

for an example of the set-up.
The snare wire needs to rest up hard against the front ply to create a "buzz" sound when the box is hit but also be able to be turned off so it can be muted.
A perfect example is in the video here:

My problem is, I cannot figure out a way to have a knob/handle set-up that is tight enough to keep the snare hard against the front without rolling back at all (there is a fair bit of pressure against the snare wires), but also loose enough that it can be adjusted easily by hand. Any ideas?! Thanks!
The video is pretty much what I want, but preferably without the "rolling" just turning. I just don't know what parts to use or how to do it!
Here's my idea: If you were to mount a coil spring on a bracket behind the wand of snare wires, such that the spring would hold pressure of the snares against the face, then you could mount a cam knob on the other side (close to the face) that could be turned to push the snares back, by degrees, away from the face. This cam knob might be a 1/4" rod with a knob on the outside (right next to the knob that's pictured on the example you provided). On the other end of that rod (inside the cajon) would be a spiral shaped cam that you could fashion from a disk of wood or plastic and fit onto the rod with a square hole (so it can't turn on the shaft). By rotating that knob, the cam would push the snares back away from the face of the instrument, against the pressure of the spring. There wouldn't be any forces working against that to make it shift, so it should stay where you put it.
Does this make sense? I can visualize it better than I can describe it, but I think it'd do what you intend ....
